Dock diving:

This is a sport in which dogs jump from a dock or platform into a large swimming pool or body of water and compete against each other for distance, height, or speed.

The distance is measured from the end of the dock to the base of the dog’s tail when it breaks water. The height is measured by how high the dog can grab or remove a bumper from a rig that hangs above the water.

The speed is measured by how fast the dog can swim to retrieve a toy from the end of the pool1. Dock diving is one of the fastest growing sports on four legs and you can earn an AKC title through North America Diving Dogs (NADD).

Surfing:

This is a sport in which dogs ride on surfboards with or without their human partners and perform tricks and maneuvers on the waves. Surfing is a challenging but rewarding sport that requires balance, coordination, and confidence.

Surfing competitions are held in various locations around the world, such as California, Florida, Australia, and Brazil. Some of the famous surfing dogs are Ricochet, Abbie Girl, and Derby.

Canicross:

This is a sport in which dogs and their human partners run together on trails or cross-country courses.

Canicross is a form of mushing that originated in Europe as a way to train sled dogs in the off-season. Canicross can be done on any terrain, but some of the most scenic and adventurous routes are near water, such as lakes, rivers, or oceans.

Canicross is a great way to bond with your dog and improve your fitness.

Flyball:

This is a sport in which teams of four dogs race against each other over a series of hurdles to fetch a ball from a spring-loaded box and return it to their handler.

Flyball is a fast-paced and exciting sport that tests the speed, agility, and teamwork of dogs and their humans. Flyball can be done indoors or outdoors, but some flyball events are held near water for added fun and cooling off.

Agility:

This is a sport in which dogs navigate through a course of obstacles, such as tunnels, jumps, weave poles, and ramps, under the guidance of their handler.

Agility is a sport that showcases the intelligence, skill, and communication of dogs and their humans. Agility can be done on any surface, but some courses are designed with water features, such as pools, fountains, or sprinklers, to add more challenge and fun.
